Lake Manyara National Park
Based just a ten minute drive from Migombani Camp, Lake Manyara National Park is conveniently close and easy to access. It is one of the smaller national parks in Tanzania but should not be overlooked when visiting its more famous neighbours, such as the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park.
Wealth of habitats
The park offers a unique scenery and a wealth of diverse habitats, making it a stunning stopover. From the lush jungle, alive with troops of baboons and swinging Blue Monkeys, you will find your way to the shallow alkaline lake, surrounded by the steep slopes of the Valley Rift escarpment. Stretch your legs at the viewpoint and search for snorting hippo pods, with white egrets sitting on their backs.
Tree climbing lions and birds
Apart from different types of antelopes, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and wildebeests, Lake Manyara is home to a growing elephant population. With a bit of more luck you will even find the renowned tree climbing lions, often resting in the thick branches of a sausage tree.
Another impressive part about Lake Manyara is the birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded here, with thousands of pink-hued flamingos, pelicans, red-and-yellow barbets and many birds of prey.
The unexplored south
If you have sufficient time we recommend to pass the north part and head down to the more unexplored south, where more surprised lie ahead. Here you will find giant baobab trees, hot springs known as ‘Maji Moto’ and a walkway right on the lake to admire the birdlife from even closer.
Lake Manyara safari activities
And finally, Lake Manyara is one of the few parks in northern Tanzania where you can get out of the car and witness the beauty from a different angle. Explore the vastness of the lake by a canoe safari and observe the bird life from the water. Rise sky-high in the beautiful forest of Lake Manyara and discover hidden life in the canopy such as monkeys, birds and butterflies with the Treetop Walkway. Or explore wildlife in the bush with a night safari!
